To enable Indiana’s foster youth to advocate for themselves and communicate effectively by increasing awareness of rights, responsibilities, and resources to ensure successful transitions.
Advocate for youth involved with Indiana’s foster care system by facilitating positive change, encouraging self advocacy, encompassing diversity and fulfilling leadership roles throughout the state.
The Indiana Youth Advisory Board (YAB) consists of youth that are currently or have been apart of the Indiana foster care system. YAB is comprised of current and former foster youth from the 18 regions within the State of Indiana. Members may maintain their seat until they no longer meet eligibility criteria. YAB meets at least four times per year to develop and implement our mission to positively impact the foster care system in Indiana. We are dedicated to advocating for positive change, encouraging self advocacy, encompassing diversity and fulfilling leadership roles throughout the state. We do this by participating in various conferences, trainings, and activities throughout the year.
Our involvement on the Board offers us each unique opportunities for leadership and to educate DCS leadership on youth experience and perspective within the foster care system.

Every year in Indiana, about 500 youth transition out of the foster care system and into our community, most often unprepared to handle independence. Indiana Connected by 25 is dedicated to providing the financial, educational and social support to assist these youth during this critical time.
Research has shown that if we can help develop a solid foundation with some very basic and fundamental skills and a sound support network for these youth, we can foster real, meaningful success for them and save and improve our local economy by hundreds of millions of dollars annually.
